More on the Guide: Our involvement with the Luzerne County Guide began in the summer of 1998 when we were asked to use our GIS data and system to produce individual school district maps which identified the type and location of all the schools within each district. The purpose of this guide was to provide information for new and prospective residents to the county, a goal that was identified by the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce Housing Task Force earlier in that year. The MAP Center created a database of all the public, private and parochial schools in the county. We collaborated with the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry and various individuals on the Task Force to verify this data. In addition, employment centers were identified and located on a full county map which appears on the Guide's centerfold. The centerfold acts as an overview and table of contents for the dozen school districts profiled in the guide. A complete map series was produced in 1999 in collaboration with the graphic designer contracted to produce the Guide. The maps were updated in early 2001 when the Guide was readied for printing and publication. The MAP Center also provided Census 2000 population and 2000 estimated median household income figures for each of the 76 Minor Civil Divisions in the county. This is part of the community information given in the Guide. This Web site presentation highlights the mapping part of the Guide.
