Mission Statement

The mission of the Pennsylvania Marketing and Planning Center is to apply geographic information systems (GIS), database and graphics technology to support regional marketing, planning and economic development in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The Center pursues its mission by employing the best practices in GIS, data management, graphics and Internet science to visualize data in a way that promotes a better understanding of the issues that affect the development of our region.

Service - to the region and the local community - is the core element of the Center’s activities. It is one expression of the mission of King’s College “to develop mutually beneficial and cooperative ties to the wider society, and particularly to the civic, cultural, and religious communities of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The goals of the MAP Center are to:
Maintain and expand a comprehensive regional spatial database
Research and implement methods to visualize GIS data for the public
Showcase Northeastern Pennsylvania on our Web site
Provide local, state, and federal governments, as well as citizens and the private sector, with the data they need to make timely and informed decisions on legislative, planning and land use issues
Support the King's College effort to integrate GIS applications into the curriculum
